Teaching
As an Associate Faculty member in Arizona State University’s Fashion Design program, I had the privilege of teaching each Fashion major in their Junior or Senior year. My course, The Global Fashion Industry, was designed to give students a more holistic view of the fashion industry and encourage them to explore the role they would like to play within it as consumers and professionals.
Course Material
We evaluate key issues facing textile and apparel businesses through economic, political, social, and environmental perspectives. I cover basic principles of sourcing and supply chain and help the the students relate these principles to relevant, contemporary brands. Throughout the semester, they further explore these principles by forming a hypothetical business, designing a line of clothing to have made, and evaluating supply chain opportunities to successfully produce their line.
Learnings
Teaching has kept me up to date with fashion current events and connected to the fashion community in Phoenix. In terms of personal development, it has helped to develop my public speaking skills, given me opportunities to mentor and advise, and cultivated in me an attitude of patience and understanding.
